Overview
Thalk is a personal walking journal app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how the app handles your data.
Data storage
All data you create in Thalk — your name, walks, GPS routes, photos, voice memos, and written thoughts — is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers that store your personal data.
Because your data is stored only on your device, if your device is lost, damaged, or reset and you do not have iCloud Device Backup enabled, your Thalks may be lost. We recommend keeping iCloud Backup on.
Location data
Thalk uses your device’s GPS to track your walking route during an active Thalk. This data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us or shared with third parties.
Photos
Thalk requests permission to access your Photo Library so you can attach existing photos to a Thalk, and permission to use the Camera so you can take new photos within the app. Photos remain on your device.
Microphone
Thalk requests permission to use the microphone to record voice memos during a Thalk. Voice memos are stored only on your device.
Song search
Thalk lets you search for and tag a song to associate with a Thalk. This uses Apple’s iTunes Search API and requires no account or login. When you search, your search term is sent to Apple to return matching results. Thalk does not access any listening history, does not require you to sign in to any music service, and does not collect or store personal data through this feature.
Analytics and tracking
Thalk does not use any analytics, crash reporting, or user tracking services. We do not collect usage data about how you use the app.
App updates
Thalk uses Expo’s update service to deliver app updates. When the app launches, it contacts Expo’s servers to check whether a new version is available. No personal data from your Thalks is sent during this check.
Third parties
Aside from the song search and Expo update check described above, we do not share or transmit your personal data to any third parties. We do not sell your data.
Your rights under GDPR
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because Thalk stores your data only on your device, you can exercise these rights directly by editing or deleting Thalks within the app, or by deleting the app entirely.

Children’s privacy
Thalk is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
